Conceived as ‘the finest house in the colony,’ Elizabeth Bay House was built for Colonial Secretary Alexander Macleay in 1839. The house has attracted many of the country’s finest artists, and was a favourite subject of Max Dupain, Australia’s greatest Modernist photographer.
