Collected and edited by Alice Gomme with illustrations by Winifred Smith, this sweet book is the first of two volumes which were highly successful when first published. It details eight children’s songs – the lyrics, their origin, the accompanying music and directions for playing. There are beautifully intricate illustrations throughout, depicting the songs themselves and children delighting in singing them. HB, pp.74.
